Artist Daniel von Sturmer was born in New Zealand but has lived and made art in Australia since 1994, representing Australia at the 52nd Venice Biennale.  His practice involves video, photography, installation and architectural interventions – often building new walls or transforming gallery spaces in a physical way. His works have their basis in traditional media such as paint and sculpture, often referencing abstraction, still life, modernism and minimalism. Drawing connections between psychology and philosophy Daniel’s work explores perception and draws attention to the various elements at play in the encounter with artworks.

Daniel has exhibited extensively in Australia and New Zealand.  His work has also been shown around the globe through solo and group exhibitions in Venice, Berlin, the United Kingdom and Sweden (to name a few).

At Spark, Daniel is going to give an insiders’ look at his recent projects and explore the idea of site and how to work with this in your own artistic practice.
