Denise L-Estrange-Corbet

L-Estrange-Corbet, a graduate of the London College of Fashion, returned to this country in 1980 and by her bold designs with clashing colour combinations, eccentric fabrics and T-shirts printed with funky and amusing designs, she brought the New Zealand fashion world up to speed so that it could enter the world stage.

Her initial idea to create an avant-garde fashion brand with a New Zealand flavour blossomed into the leading fashion house Worldbrand which grew from a tiny space at the back of Century Arcade in Auckland's High Street to the leading fashion house that characterises New Zealand's fashion identity today.

The Winter collection created a furore at London Fashion Week in 2000 and led to orders flooding in from Selfridges and Liberty.

In 2002 Denise was the first female New Zealand Fashion Designer to be awarded the title of MNZM (previously MBE) by Queen Elizabeth II for her contribution to the New Zealand Fashion Industry. The establishment had at last come around to WORLD's way of thinking!
