Lindah Lepou’s award winning Pacific couture silences the old debate over whether or not fashion is art. Created from natural fibres and materials long before sustainability was an everyday conversation topic, her designs celebrate her Samoan, Scottish and English ancestry while fusing Pacific and European textiles with mythology and tradition.
Since her career in fashion began she has designed national costumes for contestants in Miss World and Miss Universe, exhibited alongside fashion greats such as Vivienne Westwood and won many awards. Based in Invercargill, Lindah also runs a clothing factory, manufacturing high quality garments for top NZ designers and corporate institutions.
Lindah aims to inspire people of all ages, cultures and creative pathways to discover their own identity and then celebrate it in their work. Her presentation at Spark will have a focus on both the ‘art’ and ‘business’ of fashion, so come along to learn some ins-and-outs of the fashion industry and be inspired yourself in whatever creative pursuit you love.
Lindah is presenting at Spark in collaboration with Tautai - an organisation dedicated to the mentoring and ongoing support of Pacific artists.
