Sarah Maxey & Ben Waddington

Graphic artist Sarah Maxey will present a typographic project with a typeface designer and poet based on the Exquisite Corpse game invented by the Surrealists. Then, together with historical researcher Ben Waddington, she will introduce their recent collaboration, entitled World Animal, about observing and interpreting the environment. The project has its origins in art but will demonstrate the human mind's adaptable ability to translate data according to a desired outcome, and proves there is always a new way to see the world.

Sarah Maxey is a graphic artist from Wellington, specialising in handlettering. Her background is in book publishing, designing book covers for Bloomsbury Publishing in the UK and various New Zealand publishers, winning many awards along the way. She has exhibited her work widely and had typographic illustrations published in the New York Times, Urbis and Prodesign magazines. She has had speaking engagements at typographic symposiums both in New Zealand and abroad.
