Sarah Smuts-Kennedy
Laree Payne is delighted to present Leaning into the Shine, a solo exhibition of dynamic drawings (pastel on cotton rag) by Tāmaki Makaurau based artist, Sarah Smuts-Kennedy. Comprising a selection of works made in the spring and early summer of 2021 through until the Autumn of 2022, Leaning into the Shine sees works which ebb, flow, jostle and vibrate.
Previously unseen, presented works continue Smuts-Kennedy’s practice of tuning into and registering energy fields which are drawn down via the attuned act of listening. These fields have many qualities; vibrationally they can be scrappy or melodic, spatially they can be busy and dense or cleaner and more open, with palettes that resonate differently for each viewer.
Smuts-Kennedy’s inclusion in the 2022 Ramp Festival programme follows her keynote presentation at the 2021 Ramp Festival where the artist spoke on her wider practice including the For the Love of Bees project, regenerative urban farming and biodynamics, and her art practice.
The exhibition runs from 10 August to 3 September at Laree Payne Gallery.
