Scott Paterson is a senior design lead at IDEO.

His work focuses on the intersection of technology and space whether designing mobile applications, embedded interfaces or physical environments. Scott is passionate about understanding how our experience can be supported, mediated and inspired by great interaction design. Since joining IDEO, he has developed a range of media solutions from community building within senior living residences to improving the body care experience.

Before joining IDEO, Scott was a principal designer at Frog Design. There he led interaction projects from mobile touch-enabled personnel badges for Motorola, to large-scale digital walls for Hyatt Hotels in Moscow. Scott also served for six years as an adjunct professor at Parsons School of Design, teaching interaction design within the Design and Technology MFA programme.

Scott lectures internationally about interaction design and art. His PDA-based art works have been exhibited at the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Walker Art Centre, the Banff Centre for the Arts, and venues in Amsterdam, Berlin, Florence, and Mexico City.

Trained as an architect, his education includes a Bachelor of Architecture degree from the University of Minnesota and a Masters degree from Columbia University. Scott has received independent artist grants from the Walker Art Center, Parsons School of Design, and The Design Institute at the University of Minnesota. His work has been published in a number of books.

When he’s not busy with the art scene Scott likes to pedal around town or off-road, surf local breaks and tinker around the house while his cats look on.
