Back in the 70s, there was a strand of punk - Jonathan Richman, Talking Heads, Poly Styrene - which realised that rock rebellion had become a cliché. The new radical look was ordinary - as Andy Warhol had already demonstrated, it was hipper to be square. 

The Sing Songs hold hands demurely with local musicians like the Brunettes, sharing a recipe for 100% perfect pop, sweet as ice cream, but not fattening, music to make daisy chains by. Very much a total multimedia package, The Sing Songs' innocent but knowing, everyday theatricality comes over not only in their music, but also in their retro, op-shop chic, and the childlike, faux-naif stylings of their videos and website. 

Predominantly a girl-group in a "rock" scene dominated by sweaty guys in leather jackets, The Sing Sings remind us that great pop music is all about dressing up, living it up and hopefully never growing up.
